Step-wise cystometry of urinary bladder. New dynamic procedure to investigate viscoelastic behavior.

چکیده
Step-wise cystometry has been developed to analyze the pressure-relaxation phenomena of the bladder in mongrel dogs. The results show that a mathematical model consisting of two exponentials and a constant can befitted to the measurements. This model is interpreted in a mechanical model of the bladder wall in terms of viscoelasticity. Recent advances in urodynamics have indicated that to understand better the results of urodynamic investigations, it is necessary to have more information about the mechanical properties of the bladder wall. For example, the properties of the wall can affect the storage capacity and the expulsion-force of the bladder. While the storage-(adaptation) properties formerly were ascribed exclusively to active mechanisms, we now cannot exclude that passive mechanisms are also involved. Qualitatively the same behavior was found in the bladder, in vitro, several hours after death and even in rubber bal1oons.l In this report we describe the over-all behavior of the bladder in terms of viscoelasticity and geometry of the bladder.

Combination of bladder ultrasonography and novel cystometry method in mice reveals rapid decrease in bladder capacity and compliance in LPS-induced cystitis.
Various animal models have been used in research into bladder dysfunction, and in vivo cystometry is a common method to analyze bladder function in animals. However, it is rather difficult to perform reliably in small animals. Transabdominal bladder ultrasonography combined with cystometry in urethane-anesthetized mice have revealed physical inhibition of bladder wall movement by a bladder cath...

OBJECTIVES To evaluate the role of cystometry in the diagnostic evaluation of patients with symptoms of overactive bladder, by comparing the treatment outcome in those with and without urodynamically proven bladder instability. METHODS Prospective observational study performed at Urogynaecology Division, the Kidney Center Post-Graduate institute of nephro-urology, Karachi. Forty six patients ...
متن کاملPhasic Changes in Bladder Compliance During Filling Cystometry of the Neurogenic Bladder
OBJECTIVE To investigate phasic changes during filling cystometry that most accurately represent detrusor properties, regardless of other factors affecting detrusor contractility. METHODS Seventy-eight patients (59 males, 19 females; mean age, 48.2 years) with spinal cord injuries were enrolled. Urodynamic studies were performed using a normal saline filling rate of 24 mL/min. We calculated b...
متن کاملInvestigation of the neurogenic bladder.
URODYNAMICS The term "urodynamics" encompasses any investigation of urinary tract function although it is often used colloquially as a synonym for cystometry. Cystometry, the measurement of bladder pressure, has been the main tool used to show abnormal behaviour of the neurogenic bladder. The earliest reference to a study measuring bladder pressure is commonly given as the paper by Mosso and Pe...
متن کاملEvaluating the Procedure for Performing Awake Cystometry in a Mouse Model.
Awake filling cystometry has been used for a long time to evaluate bladder function in freely moving mice, however, the specific methods used, vary among laboratories. The goal of this study was to describe the microsurgical procedure used to implant an intravesical tube and the experimental technique for recording urinary bladder pressure in an awake, freely moving mouse. In addition, experime...
